1. 大家好！我叫莫愁，我是UBC的四年级学生。我学习语言学 (linguistics)，可是我只会说一种语言！我希望这个学期后能说两种语言。。。
我喜欢画画、写作，背包旅行 (go backpacking)。我是加州人，所以小的时候我父母经常带我和我哥哥去山里背包旅行。我很喜欢温哥华，可是我会总更爱加州！
我家有四口人：爸爸，妈妈，哥哥和我。我爸爸是半中国人，所以会说中文说的不错。我妈妈是白人，可是她比我爸爸说中文好！在大学中文课我爸爸和妈妈认识，然后开始约会，坠入爱河！也许这就是为什么我上中文课 😩
2. 我上中文课因为想跟我爷爷说中文。他很小的时候搬出中国，所以他希望我们家更多中国文化联系起来 (connect with)。我说中文的时候让他很高兴。另外，毕业以后我想住在台湾！
3. This semester, I hope to improve my confidence in speaking Chinese. My goal is to be able to have fluent conversations about everyday things with Chinese shopkeepers, relatives, etc. I hope to expand beyond just basic introductions and ordering food, and speak enough to actually connect with someone in Chinese.
4. 这个夏天我在Granville Island工作。每天在那里一个中国菜餐厅我吃午餐，每天我都点同样的菜：牛肉青豆 (beef with green beans)。我想说中文点菜，可是非常紧张！最后，我告诉服务员 “你好，我要一份牛肉青豆”。他说 “哇！” 然后他给我打折！现在每次在这个餐厅吃午餐，他们给我打折！
5. In previous Chinese classes, I struggled to connect my knowledge of vocab/grammar patterns into comfortable conversation, so I hope this course will help me have more fluid speaking abilities. More specifically, I want to work on incorporating more complex grammar patterns into my speech rather than relying on the most basic way to express something. I'm planning on meeting up with a friend who speaks Chinese, as well as conversing with my parents to improve this. I will also work on retaining vocabulary from previous lessons by making flashcards and reviewing them periodically.
