Reflecting back on my experience during this course, I think it greatly improved my overall language capabilities. CHIN 331 puts great emphasis on the language's applications in everyday life. In accordance to that, I think learning themes that were relatable to our lives coupled with speaking skills motivated me to improve my Chinese. Whenever I see an opportunity to speak Chinese, I have an itch to engage in a conversation or listen to what they might be saying. In addition to that, listening to my peers' pronunciations and reading their blogs allowed me to figure out my own quirks and improve my speaking and writing skills. It was also refreshing to read how they expressed their days lives through Chinese.
I would say that there was no single moment that stood out to me because I hollistically enjoyed the whole CHIN 331 experience. The constant speaking sessions - within and during the OP sessions - pulled out my shell, stoking me with the confidence to hone my language acquisition. Moreover, I greatly enjoyed engaging with my peers and getting to know them.
Although I would say I greatly improved, I still want to improve my speaking and memorizing. I have a bad habit of translating the characters into pinyin and then reading the pronunciation from there. Instead of this, I want to be able to pronounce the words fluently by just looking at the characters. This will make it easier for if I ever encounter Chinese during my day life. Moreover, the final project showed me that there still is a block for me when memorizing Chinese sentences. I think an interesting to combat this is by memorizing song lyrics! I specifically enjoy Chinese hiphop due to its unique cadence - listening to it sounds very memorizing for some reason - and if I can memorizing such intricate lyrics, I think I would fare better at future oral projects.
