1. I feel like my personal goals were a little too strong for a three-month period, but I definitely met many of them.
One of my goals at the start of the term was to be able to speak Chinese like a native in terms of pronunciation. I feel like this kind of goal requires months if not years of practice, so I was unable to meet this specific goal in the three-month period, but I definitely made a lot of progress. I feel very comfortable speaking to locals in Chinese now and I am able to realize when my pronunciation or tones are wrong. However, I need to continue practicing after this course to meet this goal.
One of my other goals was to improve my vocabulary and learn complex grammatical structures so I can work in China for business reasons. I feel like I more than exceeded the expectations I had for this goal. I feel like the course did a great job for me to quickly bring new complex structures into my everyday language, and to slowly bring in the vocabulary so I understand how to use the new words and never forget the meaning.
2. One meaningful experience was when I went to a Chinese restaurant and asked for the waiter's recommendation for a meal. I used the phrases we used in class, such as 我想吃一道又咸又清淡的菜,而且我不能吃油和辣的菜。This was a fun experience and the waiter was very impressed.
3. I have graduated and I will be moving to China in January. Hopefully I can improve my Chinese even more there, and I can use all the progress I made during this course to successfully work in China for a long time!
